room with a view

this is the night view from the balcony of our room, which overlooked the river and the whole waterfront. the port lodges are all lit up, dotted around the hill, and I will blip the monastery/army barracks just to the left of this view for today, 21st.

great day today, started with a look at the amazing 20,000 azulejos - tiles - in the Sao Bento railway station entrance hall, followed by a climb to the top of the Torre dos Clerigos, 75m and 225 steps, for some amazing views. once we got our breath back we then took a tram ride right along the riverside and walked back, about 2 miles maybe? lovely to wander in the heat!

we then had a 50 minute boat ride along the river, to see the six bridges that span the river here, in a replica 'barco rabello' - the traditional boats that used to carry the port barrels down the river.

dinner and a drink finished off a brilliant day.
