Silent Bell
Today was very busy at Speke Hall as this is the last weekend that the house is open this year. I did two tours both of which were full. Two lovely groups of people to bring the guiding year to an end.
I then dashed over to the tower as we were holding an open day. I arrived just as the last person was being shown the bells. It was a good day with about 75 people climbing the tower to see the ringing chamber and the belfry. We tied up the clapper on the 7 so that we could demonstrate how the ringing is done without deafening the people in the belfry. It also meant that they could see the bell turning through 360 degrees.
Tomorrow will be a full on bellringing day. Ringing for service in the morning before heading to one of the ringer's home for mince pies and handbell ringing. This is a Christmas tradition of the band from the tower where we are learning and they kindly invite us along. In the afternoon we will be heading back to their tower to ring for the Christingle service.
