On the Grand Canal

China - Day 5

Today we saw some vestiges of Old China. This village on the canal, built I forget how many centuries ago, to link Beijing and Shanghai, has become a tourist destination and many of the houses are souvenir shops and restaurants. But enough remains to give some idea of how things were.

The winery is still in production. We didn't sample the vintage - the bouquet was not attractive.  But the jars where it was maturing were very impressive - big enough to drown in. (See extra)
