China, Day 4
In the Humble Administrator's Garden, somewhere south of Shanghai.
Not so humble, though not as spacious as it seems. The layout is intricate. Mounds of rock, pools and canals define meandering routes, a three-dimensional Chinese puzzle.
At each turn something new catches the eye - a tree, a stone pagoda, a screen of bamboo.
Everything is harmonious. Colour is used sparingly and in large beds - crysanthemums mainly, and just beginning to fade. Somehow that seemed to fit with the mellow feeling of the place.
