Thorny!
Pochote (Spanish), Kapok Tree, or Ceiba (aesculifolia or pendrata), is quite an interesting tree in all phases of its growth. Here you can see how the trunk is covered with conical thorns, and the extra photo shows the seed pod hanging from the upper branches. Later in the season the pods will open and the tree will be full of giant balls of kapok, similar to cotton, that has been used for stuffing mattresses and other items.
Several varieties of ceiba flourish in Mexico, many with lovely flowers that resemble lilies.
