The One o'Clock Gun
This morning we we walked The Royal Mile up to Edinburgh Castle, where we spent an interesting morning touring round the various buildings that make it up. It's full of interesting and informative museums and exhibitions, including one housing Scotland's Crown Jewels and the history of Scottish royalty, as well as offering commanding views of the surrounding area.
We were there for the ceremony of the firing of the one o'clock gun, carried out with due pomp and ceremony. Originally carried out daily to give shipping in the Firth of Forth an accurate time check to set their time pieces by, the ceremony is still performed every day except Sunday.
After lunch, we wandered some areas we didn't see yesterday and did a bit more festive shopping, including revisiting the Christmas market.
Many thanks for the best wishes for Tess's birthday yesterday
