Day 2 Cultural Christmas Market Test
Late start but eventually shot down the motorway to Reutte in Tirol, Austria and then along the lovely Plansee lake for a short stretch of the legs walk to Schloss Linderhof in Germany. "Mad" King Ludwig II's little hunting lodge.
Then to Oberammergau the village where the passion play is performed every 10 years and the "home" of the wood figure carving business and obligatory stop for all tourists to buy their Christmas baubles in the Christmas shops open all year round. A coffee and Apple Strudel before returning via the Plansee and Reutte, to Schwangau, the hamlet below the two famous castles of Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein, the latter being invisible having hidden itself behind low clouds.
Quick walk to the lake 50 metres from the car before setting off to the roman & medieval town of Füssen just 2 or 3 km away. Walked through the streets admiring the lights and picking up some "snowball" shortcrust pastry "things" in tastes of Nougat, Baileys, Pistaccio and Advoocat. for a snack at home.
Then we found the Christmas Market in a lovely lit courtyard of the former monastery of St Mang and the Glühwein was tested.
Eventually headed back to Ottobeuren for a quick supermarket shop for some small bits and pieces to make full use of the tiny flight luggage allowance, Then home to a lovely meal cooked by Angie and a beer & wine or three.
Then not too late to bed as an early start tomorrow to catch the plane.
Yesterday left passports at home knlowing we didn't need them, today we forgot them and yet crossed 8 potential border posts but didn't see a single policeman or guard. In the very good old days we could have expected to have 8 nice stamps in our passports. You don't get value for money nowadays having an EU passport.
