The sheltered rock pools of Porto Moniz

A shorter walk today from Paul do Serra to Fanal. At 1000m altitude, we walked through forests of 2m tall Heather trees (did you know that Heather grew that tall? Even in Auckland they can't reach that height). As we descended, we cut through dark and damp clusters of ancient Laurel trees and tried to distinguish Goshawks and Sparrowhawks from the Kestrels. The Firecrests and Blue Chaffinches were commoner and easier to spot and we have more than enough photographs of them now.
Yet another different walk on a well maintained path, this time in the north of the island. We must be getting fitter as we still felt up to a longish walk down to the the shore for a classy Italian meal in the evening.
