I spent some time on the phone this morning getting the reglazing of our broken Velux skylight organised. The company which normally does the reglazing work will not cover this area so Velux has arranged to send one of their own technicians on Thursday. I learned some things about Velux windows too. The fault arose in a batch of windows where a different sealant (since discontinued) was used. Over time this sealant allowed the gas between the panes to leak leaving lower pressure in the gap. The outer pane is toughened glass, the inner was plain glass so the inner is the one that fails. Our window is still weatherproof. The replacement glazing will have a tempered inner pane not unlike a car windscreen so it will be stronger and should it fail it will craze and no glass should fall unlike ours which shattered in large pieces and several fell from the window ... from quite a height.
After lunch Maeve the Deerhound and I went for the repeat of our usual morning walking route across the road and round to the park and the harbour and back along through town. The harbour was very quiet today with all the fishing boats out at sea. Ayress was at the new quay taking on wood.
Once Maeve was back home and settled I went for a walk. Deacon Blue (Believers) and Runrig (The Story) on the Clip. I went out Low Askomill to the old shipyard and kept going out the North shore path past Baraskomel farm and out as far as the gate on the last stretch to Macringan's point before turning round to come back. I didn't see any boats out beyond the loch.
On the way back I walked round the esplanade, had a wander round the harbour, and came back home through town.
Afternoon music ... Coldplay, X&Y.
