Calm waters
The day was bright and the waters of the river were unruffled. My morning was too but after church I was called into the hospital. Tom and I went in for a second meeting to try to prevent a very vulnerable person being put out on the street once again, that individual having been a missing person and having been found hypothermic and resuscitated in the hospital 24 hours previously. That was actually the tenth admission in a few weeks in similar circumstances and the tenth attempt to get something done. The professionals had not read the notes nor a carefully written dossier demonstrating their responsibilities and powers. Only threats of formal complaints and holding individuals to account and a demand that psychiatrists be recalled to explain their decisions produced any progress. After two hours a solution of sorts was found. It would have been very difficult for someone who had not worked in a similar environment.
There has been a lot written about mental health provision being not fit for purpose and I have seen that at the sharp end. Rant over!!
