Fox-and-cubs

Not another trailcam picture of our night visitors but the plant - a naturalised escape which seems to like cemeteries. This one was growing in a small cemetery just of the Five Weirs Walk, which follows the River Don from the centre of Sheffield to Meadowhall shopping centre. I did a small section of this today, mainly searching for butterflies on the buddleia which line the riverbanks. I saw a good range of these, but not many of each type: a comma, a peacock, a few gatekeepers and green-veined whites, a speckled wood and a couple of blues (possibly holly blues). There were huge numbers of sand martins along one stretch of the river, a few moorhens with young and the usual grey and pied wagtails. There were also lots of brown hawker dragonflies - they seem to be everywhere this year, and a few others which were to fast to ID.
