Big Hairy Monster

I've been trying together a shot of a tiny blue butterfly that I'm seeing in the garden, but despite several appearances, it hasn't settled long enough to capture. It has been a good day for macro photography though - somewhat overcast to strengthen the colours and very still to ensure a sharp shot when handheld - so as the garden was alive with hover flies today, I went for this large one which was visiting a fennel flower. I don't know a great deal about hover flies, but I think this is Volucella sp. possibly zonaria which have been spreading northwards according to my reading on the subject.
