Pea brained?

Biologists have devoted untold thousands of hours of effort in the field and in the lab. and have used powerful computers to show that animals generally forage in an optimal fashion. That is to say while foraging they change their rates of pacing, direction of movement and the length of time they spend in a particular place so as to maximise the rate at which they take in energy. 
Amazing then  that this curlew can manage to do it with a brain the size of a pea!
