Lake Waccamaw, NC

This row of boathouses on the shore of Lake Waccamaw, NC is typical of much of the lake front.  People who own lakefront houses have piers and boathouses for convenience and pleasure.  Most of the boats are in storage by this time of year.  As you can see, some Fall color is coming to the trees.  The lake is 7 miles across.  It is named for an American Indian tribe that lived in the area hundreds of years ago.  Descendants still live in the area without Federal recognition of their heritage..  My son and his family were to rent a house here, but the owner failed live up to repair and renovation promises, so they have found another house in a different community.
