Another Grey Day In Northumberland

Pink Floyd Album Tracks - Day 17

"Poles Apart" from "The Division Bell" (1994)

These poles are a frequent sight on many roads across the moors of Northumberland. These are on the road from Allendale to Carr Shield. For most months of the year they serve no useful purpose (other than to give me today's Blip). It's in the winter months that they come into their own. The snow up here can be a bit severe at times and the poles are positioned to show you where the edge of the road is, usually with a ditch or big drop on the other side.

I'm not sure I want to be on any road when I can only work out where the edge is with the aid of an 8 foot pole so I may never see them doing the job they were designed for.

It's still beautful countryside around here even on a grey miserable day like today.
