Faith in Human Nature
If ever your faith in human nature feels diminished, a trip to Betty's Reading Room will help restore it.
Once a derelict bothy at Tingwall, Evie, Orkney, it has been lovingly restored by Betty's friends and turned into a peaceful haven for booklovers. The window in the main photo was Clive Barrett's first ever attempt at stained glass- making and he also made carved hares and copper hares and painted hares , Betty's favourite animal. Clive's wife Di made a patchwork throw for the comfy sofa. You can sit by the wood burning stove all day if you like and browse the book shelves- borrowing, donating, lending, taking whichever books take your fancy. Planning to take a picnic next time, light the stove and relax with friends. There's a very special energy at Betty's, she must have been quite a lady.
