The Double Houses

The double houses, 3 in a row back to back. They served as a hospital for the men coming back from the whaling - read a horrific account of the deprivations they suffered in 'The ice Bound Whalers'- the tale of a whaling boat trapped in the ice south of Greenland- only a few survived and somehow managed in their starving debilitated state to sail the ship back to Stromness.
