Christmas Holiday

The offices officially closed yesterday, and though I've got a few things to work on over holiday, it's on to being a Cape Town tourist for me. I hope to be on the mountain as often as possible, so you can count my blipfoto blog as a bona-fide brochure for awhile.

This ferris wheel is at the famously touristy V&A Waterfront -- Patrick likens the place rather accurately to Pleasure Island. We got gift cards there from Norton and Jane so we spent the 400 rand on dinners we couldn't otherwise afford and spent a good while watching this wheel spin slowly around in all its Merry Christmas glory.

Starting in January, I'm going to be coordinating a new project working with the grade 12s in the informal settlements. The actual project launches in February and from then until a few months shy of 2010, I'll be in the townships every day; these communities represent an entirely different world from that which will characterize this upcoming holiday, so fear not -- diversity to come.

We were having a discussion the other day about the truth of the phrase, "Your team is only as strong as your weakest player" in the context of inner and outer personal beauty (e.g. you're only as pretty as your worst hair day, etc.), but I think this debate on whether the sentiment is true or not also applies to Cape Town. Let me know what you think come March.
