Marjorie's ramblings

Happy experimenting

Today was a red letter day. At last Mum was well enough to venture out of the house. She has been confined to quarters for weeks now.

Of course, the temperature had dropped like a stone, so we had to wrap up warmly.

We went to Allendale to the Forge Studios. Our friends, Tim and Maxine were volunteering in the shop there today. I needed to meet Tim to look at the gallery space where he will have an exhibition of his woodwork next September. We measured the walls and discussed how my photographs can complement his work.  It's very exciting.

We also made some unscheduled purchases in the craft shop. We didn't find Christmas presents as we had hoped, but bought a few things for ourselves.

Back at home I made a start at looking at some of Tim's work and thinking about how to photograph it. I realised when I had finished that I should have rotated this vase which tends to have a 2D rather than a 3D look. It is on white board with white board behind. In this image I've deliberately used the shadows, but I did others where I eliminated them with the lighting.

The board was balacned on a dining chair that was balanced (just) on to a small table. Not ideal. I need a proper studio.

Lots to think about and more experiments will no doubt follow.

Mum enjoyed her time out and seems none the worse for wear.
