This image was taken within the Butter Cross, or Market Cross, in the village of Oakham.
The Cross appears on a map of 1611 and it was here that dairy products were sold in the market. Oakham must have been a busy place, as at least four other crosses were situated here.
The Butter Cross also contains this unusual 5 hole stock - perhaps Jake the Peg was a regular visitor too !
