BOX MODEL

Yes another signal box, see a previous entry here.
This one is different - it is the signal box at Oakham Station and it was made famous as the mould for a wonderful scale model made by Airfix Ltd in the 1950's.
As a child I spent many hours model-making and Airfix was THE number one company, producing models of cars, aircraft and buildings. Lots of cutting and glue all over your fingers for days !

The sob story is more a confession to me being a real pain !
Both my cousin and I were given models of this signal box one Christmas morning. By afternoon the excitement was too much and Rob started to build this signal box, with me interfering. At last it was finished. We just had to wait for the glue to dry. Being impatient we put it near to the warmth of the fire to hasten the process.
On return the whole of the back of the model had melted ! It now had a very wavy wobble - it was ruined !
Then the question was asked - did I want to give my model (still in the packet) to Rob and a replacement would be bought later in the week. My answer was No ! It belongs to me !
What a miserable *** !
