In town today there was a dog making a pained howl that shocked shoppers, and I can still hear it ringing through my ears now. Mouthwash was on offer in Superdrug. I talked about saiga antelopes with a colleague and ate too many pork pies. I replenished my toilet roll supply and received my first birthday card. I liaised with South Sudanese hoteliers and British malaria tablet dispensers. My new flat inched ever so slightly further towards being ready.
