Spore Prints
I did try another trip up the road to where I saw the Barn Owl from yesterday, but no sign of it tonight. As we are away for a few days from tomorrow, I thought it was a good idea to clear out my work area to avoid coming home to smelly rotting fungi. There were several spore prints on slides that I had left to check the colours. The white one is a Russula (Brittlegill) and the pink one is unsurprisingly from a Pinkgill or Entoloma. Making a spore print is the best way of checking the spore colour, as gills are not always the same colour as the spores. This is an invaluable aid to identifying fungi as it can instantly narrow down or rule out what genus you are looking at.
