A day on the coast

After a cold night it was a lovely bright morning so we took a route to the Norfolk Coast. Arriving at Walcott the tide was in and the sea pounding against the sea wall. It was going to be bracing.

Following the coastal route through some attractive villages, we came to Cromer and decided a walk on the pier was a must with a welcome coffee in the Pavillion Theatre at the end.

My favourite part of the day was a walk here at Cley next the Sea. (A misnomer as it is at least a mile from the sea!) Walking on a high grassy bank between Cley Marshes and Blakeney Freshes we found it unfortunately didn't reach the sea as the path turned to head to Blakeney with the newly diverted river blocking our way onto Blakeney Head. One of the reasons I enjoyed it so much was the rustling sound of the reeds below us blowing in the wind.

Another stop for a drink in Wells next the Sea where the BBC were filming about flood defences for Look East. We've just watched it.

We finished our trip in Hunstanton as the sun went down over The Wash at 17.12.

A great day out and yet I know we missed some interesting places inland such as Holt which looked great even in the dark.
