Early sunset
One thing that I like about the early sunsets of late autumn and winter is the chance to see the sun set behind Bute. In summer, you have to be out walking here about 10pm to catch it, as we did in August when my grandsons visited and needed a run around after travelling here. But though we couldn't actually see the sun this afternoon, it was there, setting, at 4.30pm and giving lovely light and colour to the clouds.
This photo was taken using ProHDR, which I've found works best when there are no foreground trees or features to blur with camera shake. The colour of the red rocks in the foreground is rather more intense than in normal view, but the detail in the stony beach more than makes up for the distortion.
It was dark within an hour of the sun's setting.
