An ART day
We had a great day - my head is spinning… Took the bus downtown and the ferry to Bainbridge Island to see the 3 year old Bainbridge Island Museum of Art and a most exquisite show “Native Hands: Indigenous Art of the Salish Sea” The museum is all about local artists and this one has the best contemporary Salish artists . But I also went to see the Artists Book exhibit “local Heroes, Book Artists of Washington State” in a dedicated space that will always have artist books in it. (Of course now I’m inspired!!) Had lunch with a friend who lives there (yes, that was the original reason for the trip!) …what used to be a sleepy island is now VERY VERY upscale.
And on the way back we went to our Seattle Art Museum to see the new show “Yves Saint Laurent, the perfection of style” . .(HERE ) ....Im not into fashion (Or cooking OR gardening..lord knows what I AM into) so was a bit leary about this show in a big art museum. But it’s all about the creative process and one genius with style—-I enjoyed that, even tho I had no clue about haute couture or his ready to wear rive gauche lines… We’ll bring the granddaughters to see his paper dolls and wonderful sketches.
So what’s the blip? Couldn't resist the colorful sand painting for the upcoming Dia de Los Muertos celebration in the museum lobby, contrasting with Yves Saint Laurent’s portrait…he didn't do anything with skulls that I saw :-) I loved the white boat on the blue sea with creatures on it. We bought some sugar skull molds in a nearby market shop ..We'll see if Fiona wants to decorate them tomorrow…. Very fun day.
