Hawkshead morning

We often linger over breakfast but only when the coffee is good, which, sadly, it was not at the Sun Inn. So we made a sharpish exit, popped the bags into the car, and then went for a stroll around Hawkshead. There's a lovely path that emerges from a little lane at the northern end of the town, heads uphill for while to Walker Ground Manor, and then turns back south, taking you through the graveyard and back to the church that looms over the rest of the houses and shops. I took this photo on the way up the lane, using my phone (and no filters); it was a beautiful morning.

We then found a lovely little café where the coffee was much better although it's a modern day failing not to have wifi as we couldn't Instagram from there and now I can't remember what it was called!

After that we took the ferry across Windermere, had a stroll and a shop around Windermere itself (the town on the lakeshore is Bowness) before setting off back to my place so I could feed the cats and get a change of clothes. From there, we'd normally take the M6 south but on the spur of the moment, we decided to go back through the Trough of Bowland, where we stopped for a bite of lunch at The Inn At Whitewell.

The food was lovely and then, by sheer coincidence, the Minx bumped into the chap who was her dad's best friend, which was quite emotional for both of them, I think. But it appears to have also been quite uplifting and we enjoyed the rest of our journey home. A lovely, relaxing day. You need one of those, once in a while.
