'The Pleasure Principle'

Up reasonably sharpish this morning for a meeting at Heathrow, which went well but was so different from the meeting that I was expecting to have that I spent the journey back 'round the M25 trying to get my head around it.

I followed this with a bit of work and some emailing before heading up to The Lyric in Soho to meet a bunch of Twitter chums - @swearing_queen, @bibilynch, @deanfeelhips and @sparkleytwinkle - for a few drinks and a giggle. It never ceases to surprise me how many amazing people I've met through Twitter.

And then I was off up to Kentish Town to meet another one, @simbuck2, for a drink and bite to eat before we went along to the Forum for the second night of Gary Numan's run, at which he played the whole of 'The Pleasure Principle'.

It is quite frankly astounding that he released this in the same year as 'Replicas'. There's not a duff track on the album and perhaps the only sign that this was released just a few months after its predecessor is that there were no b-sides of note (although the slightly rubbish instrumental 'Asylum' is used as intro music tonight).

Once again, he seemed to enjoy himself enormously, and I think everyone else did, too. It was certainly different from last night, not least because the original album was guitar free. So while guitars were used - and used well - on some tracks, tonight, Numan spent a bit more time behind his keyboard. I have to say that when I bought the tickets, I wondered if I'd regret going to all three shows but now I'm really glad that I bought them all.
