View from lignite pond
As coal is lignite millions of years ago from dead plant material. Compared to coal, lignite, however, had a much lower calorific value, the lignite layers were generally less dense and often located under unfavorable geological conditions.
In Eygelshoven was granted by Royal Decree concession on January 12, 1918 for the mining of lignite under the name "Herman".
In 1950, the closure of the mine took place.
Here is a view over Eygelshove from the place where the lignite was explored.
