World Cafe

Today I participated in a World Cafe event that was attended by 55 people, sponsored by the Aging in the Gorge Alliance

I was one of the facilitators of the cafe and we discussed The Age of Dignity: Preparing for the Elder Boom in a Changing America, by Ai-jen Poo. It was gratifying to see people engaging in animated and focused conversations discussing the cafe questions.

The Alliance bought 400 copies of the book that they distributed to libraries and senior centers in the region. This world cafe was a kick-off event. There will several other library events and book club meetings over the next month to discuss the book.

Betty Friedan is quoted as saying: "Aging is not lost youth but a new stage of opportunity and strength." Some days I agree and then other days, I think, "who is she kidding?"
