twinned with trumpton

By MrFT

Having slept on the previous night's events, we knew we had the day so quickly formulated a plan to climb Cairngorm and Beinn Mheadhoin and off we went. Somewhere about Kinross, the news that Grace would be welcome for a night or two was digested and as I hadn't cancelled the Aultguish booking, we quickly revised the plan to head way north. Tesco at Perth for supplies and then next stop: Ullapool. After a quick potter and some carrot and coriander soup, we headed further on into the wilderness; a rainbow greeted us as we came down the hill towards Coigach, the left turn into Inverpolly was a joy as we drove all the way out to Achinhaird and walked and walked and walked. Calm, cool, a weak sun offered hope. After the turmoil, the calm was welcome as we strode on, minds processing the events and slowly calming, relaxing, being soothed.  As the light faded we drove back; Ben More Coigach, Stac Pollaidh, Cul Mor and Cul Beag all majestic and alluring. The fading light blip is Stac Pollaidh; but the shot over Ardmair of the shimmer pink sea as the sun set; the panorama of the Coigach hills from out by Reiff could all have been blipped.
So off we went to the Aultguish; checked in and had the place pretty much to ourselves. We cooked and ate and drank and chatted and fell asleep.
