Alan Turing's Bombe

The Bombe machine, designed by Alan Turing and his colleagues at Bletchley Park in the 1940s.

Their efforts led to the deciphering of German signals and are said to have shortened the Second World War by two years.

This year is the centenary of Turing's birth. He committed suicide in 1954, having eaten an apple, poisoned with cyanide... He was only 41 years old.

Alan Turing, 23 June 1012-7 June 1954

The manner of Turing's death is said to have inspired the Apple logo.
