trigger happy...

...and each year these amazing little blossoms pop up in the bush and yes each year pop up on this blip!

The trigger plant (Stylidium) has a spring-loaded, touch sensitive column hiding beneath the petals which is triggered when an insect lands on the flower.
Depending on the season the column (containing the anther and the stigma) either collects or deposits the pollen (how clever is that!)  on bees and nectar feeding bee-flies.
Most of the 300 species of Stylidium are found in Australia , 150 of which are endemic to WA and 50 around Perth and range in colour from white to cream, yellow and pink.
