Once again today, I took a photograph from the spot where I completed my 10,000 steps for the day - at a convenient point on the road above Padfield in the Peak District, where I was out walking with Andy, working on another superlative walk

The lane on the right is the venue for the annual Padfield Coal Race. Competitors have to run up the road carrying a sack of coal.  Traditionally the sack had to weigh one hundredweight (112lbs or 50.8 kilogrammes.) However, in recent years, because of, yes - you guessed it - health and safety the sacks have been reduced to just 25 kilos.
