Commemorating Trafalgar Day

This stunning model of HMS Victory has pride of place in the Trafalgar Room at the Royal Southampton Yacht Club.
And fully deserves the honour bearing in mind the original was Lord Nelson’s flagship at the Battle of Trafalgar back in 1805 when the British fleet defeated the combined fleets of the French and the Spanish and thwarted Napoleon’s attempts to invade Britain.
But the battle also resulted in the death of Lord Nelson.  The original HMS Victory now rests in Portsmouth’s Historic Dockyard, but the naming of the Trafalgar Room as an extension to the yacht club at Southampton is a fitting tribute to the importance of the famous battle in maritime history.

The Commodore of the yacht club, Brian Hinde will continue a tradition of  hosting a Trafalgar-themed dinner at the Club this coming week, to commemorate the place the battle still holds in maritime circles.
