Watching the time

This is my favourite watch given to me many years ago by Mum and Dad. It has the wrong date because it's from a time where you needed to manually adjust it if the month had less than 31 days. As you can see I tend to forget ;-)

Three years ago as Mum's health was deteriorating the watch stopped. Watch makers aren't common these days but I'm fortunate to have one not far from me. He had a look at it and said it needed new insides and being a swiss watch he could get a replacement.

I compared the cost of doing that with the price of new watches. I went with new innards because I like the watch and Mum and Dad gave it to me. I was perplexed when it suddenly stopped last Sunday afternoon.

At the time I reset it but I've noticed it wasn't keeping time as well. I adjusted it a couple of times but today it lost 15 minutes during the morning. "Hmmmm, probably the battery" I thought.

I added a trip to the watch maker into my errands this afternoon. He tested the battery and it's fine as are the 3 years old the innards. What then? He suspects my watch is magnetised. I've never heard of it but apparently if you spend a lot of time around computer your watch can become magnetised and it gets confused.

He waved it in front of something (the de-magnitising) bit, and handed it back to me. I keep checking the time and so far it's spot on.

I had my 6 monthly GP visit later this afternoon. My GP is sick so I saw one of the others. He glanced at his computer screen and told me he was checking my age to see if I was over 50. Then he told me he was surprised I'm 54. I might change docs ;-)

I had something burned off my nose and my blood pressure taken. My blood pressure is still a bit higher than normal and probably due to my second earthquake repair.

$62 later I left with a clean bill of health. With 2 close friends who have conditions they won't recover from, I feel immensely grateful.
