Village life

Our last day at our New Forest BnB. It's about as good as a BnB gets. We'll be back.

We had a short walk around the village before we left for my Mum in Law's. Brockenhurst has a butcher, a baker, a greengrocer, and lots more besides. Better than most towns. St Nicholas and its churchyard was fascinating - almost 100 NZ soldier's graves. During WW1 the village was essentially one big hospital, dealing with injured troops returning from France, and with Anzac troops stationed in the village.

It also has a railway station. On our little walk we had to wait at the level crossing in the centre, a train was setting off. Destination - Manchester Piccadilly.

Village life seems very active, this noticeboard shows just some of what is going on. There is much more - little posters of forthcoming events everywhere. I could live here.

Most of the day has been spent in Highcliffe, but we have now moved on to our last destination before we return home. West Dorset is one of England's gems.
