Golden Meditations
A visit to Chartwell today.
The house, now owned by the National Trust, was the home of Winston Churchill and his beloved wife Clementine from 1922 until his death in 1965. He purchased the estate without consulting his wife (umm...) who would have certainly discouraged him due to its potential costs. However it provided much welcome refuge from the pressures of his political life.
The photo shows one of the ponds in the water gardens he added. The pond is full of Golden Orfe and he used to sit in the chair to feed them. You may just be able to make out the inscription on one of the stones which says Sir Winston often sat beside this pond to meditate and feed his golden orfe
