Australian Memorial - Fromelles/VC Corner
Another very long day again yesterday finally getting back to our hotel after an 11 hour day.....but what a day....
This photo was taken at the Australian memorial to the battles of Fromelles.....where Australian troops suffered some very heavy losses in the Great War...another beautiful but sad place recognising the sacrifice of so many young men so far away from home....
This statue depicts an actual event showing a young man trying to carry his injured friend from the open ground whilst under heavy fire.....
We head to the Somme today for our final day of what has been a memorable tour....full of sadness but also a reminder of the sacrifice of troops from all over the world....a senseless waste of often very young lives....a true lost generation....
