Arches National Park

Everywhere you look you see something like this.  It just keeps getting better and better until you finally run out of superlatives in an attempt to describe what you're seeing and end up staring in silence.  The rock formations defy logic and their names - "Eye of the Whale Arch", "Marching Men", "Tower of Babel", and "Park Avenue" (see Extra photo) - add a certain mystery and romance that seems only too appropriate.  And then you consider the fact that all of this is 300 million years old and it really does take your breath away.

We spent the day touring Moab and sightseeing.  We waited until late afternoon to go into the park because the light would be better.  I came out of it with about 350 pictures.  We're going to reverse the procedure tomorrow and get up early to catch the sunrise light so I'll probably have that many more to deal with.  The citizens of Moab are very friendly and helpful, offering advice on where to go for the best picture or meal.  We really enjoyed investigating the town.  We finally wore out after a dinner at one of the popular local pizza spots and now it's 10:00 so I'm off to bed because sunrise comes early and I need to be ready for it.
