Holiday Blip 5
Fire and Water today as Mrs F and I jumped into our hire car for a trip round the island. We started at Puerto Calero marina before heading to Timanfaya national park.
The visitor centre for Timanfaya is built on top of one of the volcanos and the chefs cook meals over a natural vent from the heat of the volcano. We also saw the Camel trains climbing up and down the mountain. The staffs demonstrated the power of the volcano with hot rocks, flames and geysers.
From Timanfaya we headed to the coast to see the surfers at La Santa, where the Atlantic waves crash to the shore. Mrs F had always wanted to see people surfing in real life, another one ticked off the bucket list.
The next stop was at Playa de Janubio where they turn sea water into sea salt. The complex is huge and has been an important part of the islands economy for decades. We then headed for Playa Blanca before taking the mountain road back to our hotel via the mountain village of Femes. We were concerned that the car would not make it to the top of the mountain as every corner resulted in a lower gear.
