Masai memory
Earlier this week we went to an excellent lecture by a film director and photographer. His talk was about the people of Africa and their journey from the land into the cities. He showed beautiful portraits and films of African people, particularly the nomadic tribes of Kenya. He told us how he mixed with the Samburu tribe and took individual pictures of them, together with scenic shots of the herders with their cattle.
We lived in Kenya in the early 1970s and the pictures brought back many memories. We were encouraged to see that out in the bush little had changed and the nomads value their old traditions. However the towns have grown almost out of recognition. We wouldn't want to go back for a visit now.
This Masai neck collar is one of the many souvenirs we have from that time.
