Diary of an Edinburgher

By LadyMarchmont

Sorry...

We live in a tenement flat. Which means that we must expect a bit of noise as people come and go up the stairs at all hours. We have students above us, and normally there isn't a problem, but last night they had a big party. They came in shouting and yelling (they call it talking) and proceeded to shout and yell at each other till dawn. The shouting and yelling takes place in their kitchen, so we don't hear it full force. But it just goes on and on till dawn. Though I have been known to appear at their door in my dressing gown and nightie in the early hours...

And so, this morning - not too early - I went and rang their bell, fully dressed, and apologised if I'd disturbed them (but I don't think they detected my sarcasm). Three new tenants, somebody's birthday, they were very sorry... I'm not an old bag, I'm quite nice to them. Honest.

Later that morning, the young chap who's been there for a couple of years came with a bunch of flowers and an apology. He admitted he had asked a crowd back to his flat. It worked. He's forgiven. But if when it happens again, I'm going to ask him to do a forfeit - chop the big bits of firewood that won't fit in our woodburner.

Archie's clippers came back this morning, all fixed and no charge. So I gave him a quick whizz and fixed up the bits I had to leave last time.

Elizabeth came back from her holiday yesterday, and took Archie out for the day. She has to endure (she loves it) a prolonged hysterical welcome from the dog (we just say Hi!). He saw his first frog on today's walk. He cried at the gate when she left.

We decided to go to the afternoon movies as it was a dreich day, and it was one we wanted to see -’Hunt for the Wilderpeople' a Kiwi film that has had rave reviews.

Hmmmm... no rave reviews from me, I'm afraid. But we did have a nice lunch at the Filmhouse, so it wasn't a complete waste of time.

Bird station news: They've eaten all the seeds, so they were replenished this morning. Plenty of suet and mealworms left ...
