Tauranga Bay Seal Colony

Great day today. Seeing it was going to be fine today but wet tomorrow we decided to go for a drive to Westport. We started the visit by taking a walk up past the lighthouse at Cape Foulwind then went around to Tauranga Bay for lunch at The Bay House - great pizza.

We'd just ordered when a friend arrived with her daughter so it was great to have an unexpected catch up. That of course extended the lunch break by a couple of hours. After lunch and our second coffees Kiwilizzie and I went around to the other side of the bay and walked over to the seal colony.

From thete we headed back into Westport, had a wee drive ariund, did some supermarketing and then had yet another coffee. By the time we were ready to head home tge sky was colouring up so we ducked back round to Carters Beach to take some sunset shots? My shots were disappointing (no tripod) but I was vastly entertained by KL's antics - see her blip for more details.

I'd only been home in Murchison for about 20 minutes when I got a call asking me to make an emergency trip to Christchurch - one of my nephew's trucks has broken down 45 minutes from here and the driver needs to be in Christchurch in time to do his pick up and return to Nelson overnight. I'll pick him up, drop him at the rental truck they've arranged and then have a bit of sleep before heading home again. What fun!

This is most definitely NOT my best photo of the day - but I love the fact that it has Mummy seal, baby seal and a weka all in the same shot. Goodness knows what the weka is doing down there - maybe it eats the seals leftovers.
