Migrant in Moscow

A solid autumn day

Autumn day with light and colours to match.

Always an enduring sight, the Church of Christ the Saviour was built "to signify Our gratitude to Divine Providence for saving Russia from the doom that overshadowed Her" (for 'doom' read: Napoleon 1812).  The church took decades to build and was eventually consecrated in 1883, then demolished by the Soviets in 1931, and rebuilt from scratch in the 1990s. Between 1958 and 1994 the site was host to the world's largest outdoor swimming pool.
