Perfect city

Today we over indulged with breakfast at the hotel. Very nice and lots of choice.

After breakfast we set off to see Charles Bridge. Another stunning sight to admire.

The Judith Tower stands at one side and there are various statues along the bridge. St John Nepomuk is where people stop to make a wish, this statue with the 5 stars on the halo around the head depicts the final moment of the saint. It is polished every day by the hands of tourists hoping it brings them good luck. Today we helped to polish it.

With our wish made and polishing done we continued over the bridge. We had a coffee (well beer) at the end and a people watch. We were talking to an american couple who were lovely. Now, someone once told me that you are three people away from someone famous. The gentleman had a cousin who makes little cakes for the queen. So today we were three people away from the queen.

After the bridge we followed the signs to the astronomical clock, this has been the centre of our universe this weekend and we always gravitate towards this place. It is beautiful.

The other day we set off on a little mission and today would see us complete it, however first we had to find the place, very simple we thought! We kept turning the wrong way, we walked round in umpteen circles always turning back or turning off down another street just too soon before we got there. Any way, after a 4 mile walk and it only 5 minutes away if hadn't kept going wrong, we were there and able to complete our mission.

Lunch, watching the world go by was our first taste of goulash and dumplins. Very nice. We didn't want a lot as we were going on our river cruise tonight.

Last minute gifts purchased, again an expedition to find the shop identified yesterday and a stroll through the jewish quarters we headed back to the hotel. Incidently where famous people have stayed, including Bill Clinton and Margaret Thatcher, poor Mr C was rather mortified at that thought!

We had a leisurly g & t in the bar then got ready for our cruise on the river. It was beautiful as everything in this city is. We had a lovely meal, ham and mustard, proper mustard seeds, not the yellow stuff in a jar, I had a duck leg with cabbage and dumplings, sounds not much written down like that but it was gorgeous and cooked to perfection. Sweet was strawberries and a lemon and mint strawberry sorbet. Absolutely lovely.

The river cruise lasted 3 hours and we disembarked at 11pm. Seeing Prague by night on the river, with a beautiful 3 course meal and bottle of wine was a perfect way to spend our last night in this perfect city.
