No 125: Green Sandpiper

As usual, not the best shot of the day. but a step closer to my target of 150. We made the most of a lovely summer's day and went to RSPB Old Moor - always a good place to pick up a numbered bird. This green sandpiper was skulking in the shadows, but in the end, I managed an identifiable shot.
The good news is, there were plenty of butterflies around. Apparently the ones that have been missing from our summer scene such as peacock, painted lady and small tortoiseshell are starting to appear now in The Netherlands, so fingers crossed... We did actually see a number of peacocks on buddleia bushes. We also saw green-veined white, brimstone, gatekeeper, small skipper and meadow brown. On the dragonfly front, we saw lots of common darters, quite a few brown hawkers, a southern hawker and an emperor. The highlight on the bird front was a hobby which made several passes over the scrapes, much to the annoyance of the lapwings. There were amazing numbers of herons, and a good showing of little grebes or dabchicks - one of my favourites.
