Drowning The Butcher's Daughter
New York was hot and humid and tiring to walk yesterday so we sat down for drinks at a little vegetarian cafe in Nolita called The Butcher's Daughter; but within a few minutes the heavens opened. I mean really opened. Like no living person on the streets even with an umbrella. Being under a canopy we observed all this stoically whilst drinking Pinot Noir and Turmeric Mimosas (seriously). The staff were very friendly and helpful so we sat there for two hours and eventually had something to eat. Lovely all round, I really liked my veggie meatballs and spaghetti. Oh and there was a rainbow over Manhattan by way of a calorie free dessert.
The journey down from Boston on the Amtrak was very pretty, going down the coast through places like Mystic and Rhode Island with their bays and boats and rocky coastline. Not the most comfortable seats but American trains are very well organised and efficient. Our hotel here - The Cassa - is very friendly and you don't really care that it needs an upgrade of its lobby and lounge (the rooms are actually really nice which is all that matters).
We got lost on the subway and found Chinatown (very grubby and not worth a visit unless you are looking to eat or buy dried fish); did some walking around Greenwich and Soho in the evening (which was really nice) but all a bit of a blur as we were so tired by then. Except for the candy store that was linking Halloween into the presidential elections and lampooning Trump and Clinton. That was a standout.
Better news on the Dylan front so we are just hoping it all turns out okay, but still taking each day as it comes.
