Living Memories

Couldn’t resist a quick visit to the Romsey SignalBox today, a historic part of railway history in Hampshire and which is always an hour well spent.
The signalbox itself dates from 1865, and although it is no longer in everyday use as part of the railway system, and has been moved from its original location, it is an important historic reminder of what railways used to be.
So much so that it has been designated as a working museum with levers and bells, which visitors are invited to operate, and as all the workings of what a railway signalbox of its time would have been.
It does have a short section of track and signals which demonstrate the actual workings.

Sadly it is open only two occasions a month, and for special reasons,. Or maybe just as well it’s only two weekends a month, otherwise I would spend a whole lot more time there.  Just pondering!
