Monarch Butterfly Analytics
All of the in-flight butterfly photos are based on focusing where I think the butterfly will land next. Butterfly analytics is an iffy art. Some of the monarchs land 30 meters from where I predicted, which is not surprising when you have a 10 meter wide X 800 meter long wildflower area. The more efficient and predictable feeders such as the pictured butterfly land on the closest available flower upwind. I was so confident of this one that I moved in closer for the shot. There is some blur from wingtip movement even at 1/2000 second exposure.
The Monarch Watch tagged butterfly posted as an extra yesterday was present and feeding immediately west of yesterday's location.
